A FAMILY STORY
WITH TEETH.
The Posh Cockneys is Samantha Fielding’s memoir trilogy in development, spanning London, Hawaii, Marbella, Hollywood, Peru and Mallorca.
About Samantha
Samantha Fielding is a photographer, artist, mother and writer, based between Mallorca and Peru. She was the child inside these stories. Now she is the one asking the questions.
How the book was made
Most of the book grew out of Samantha’s interviews with both her parents, conducted separately on different continents because they cannot be anywhere near each other. Hours of storytelling were recorded and transcribed, then brought together with Samantha’s own memories. Tears, laughter and rather a lot of wine accompanied the process.
Two parents. Different continents. Samantha wanted a memoir, not an incident number.
The three books
- Book One: kidnapping, whales, the platform-shoe empire, Hawaii and the big escape to Marbella.
- Book Two: Hollywood, Oscar-winning producers, San Diego ranches with a cartel past, earthquakes in the Palisades and the prison Levi’s-jeans story.
- Book Three: Peru, Mallorca, Hollywood and everything coming full circle.
Conversation subjects
- Marbella in the eighties and growing up behind the glamour.
- Family reinvention across countries and generations.
- Interviewing parents who remember the same events differently.
- Turning oral history into a memoir with humour and emotional honesty.
- Photography, memory and the daughter’s perspective.
